IPO

As of 06/11/2026 SpaceX priced its IPO at $135 per share, raising $75B - the largest IPO in history, surpassing Saudi Aramco's $26B record from 2019.

On 06/12/2026, SpaceX began trading on Nasdaq under ticker SPCX, opening at $150 (+11% vs IPO price) and closing at $160.95 (+19.2%). Intraday the stock briefly surged above $176, pushing the market cap past $2.25T. The deal was ~3.5× oversubscribed with $250B+ in orders. Musk's net worth crossed $1 trillion for the first time, making him the world's first trillionaire. SpaceX became the 6th largest U.S. company by market cap.

As of 03/04/2026 SpaceX boosted its target IPO valuation above $2T.

In 04/2026, SpaceX confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO), with expectations to go public this summer. The company could become the first to enter public markets with a valuation exceeding $1T. The draft IPO registration was submitted to the SEC confidentially, with shares expected to begin trading in June or July.

In 02/2026 the acquisition of xAI reshapes SpaceX's upcoming IPO, providing investors access to both a leading space company and an AI model developer. The combined company was valued at approximately $1.2T, with SpaceX's valuation increasing from about $800B and xAI valued over $200B.

As 02/2025, SpaceX is preparing for an IPO and has held meetings with non-US banks to pitch for roles in the listing process. The IPO is expected to take place later this year and could raise up to $50B.

In 12/2025 SpaceX informed investors and representatives of financial institutions that it plans to pursue an initial public offering in the second half of 2026.

CNBC has reported multiple times that a SpaceX IPO is likely. One report from 2020 quotes SpaceX chief Mr. Elon Musk as stating that an IPO is 3 to 4 years ahead. Then, another memo obtained by CNBC in 2022 quotes the same executive as saying that an IPO is still 3 to 4 years away.

Musk reiterated that SpaceX plans to eventually spin off Starlink and take it public. He said Starlink “needs to pass through a deep chasm of negative cash flow over the next year or so.”

“Once we can predict cash flow reasonably well, Starlink will IPO,” Musk said.

While rumors of a potential SpaceX or Starlink IPO have been circulating for years, Musk stated in 06/2022 that Starlink is unlikely to go public until 2025 or later.

02/2022 SpaceX split its private stock 10-for-1. The split reduced SpaceX’s common stock to $56 a share. The share prices are adjusted to 10:1 due to the shares split

In 01/2023, venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya predicted that a Starlink IPO would happen in 2023 — saying it’d be the biggest deal of the year. He added that Starlink’s valuation “will be at least half of SpaceX’s current private worth.”

In 06/2023, the Wall Street Journal reported that SpaceX was seeking to boost its valuation to $150B by letting employees sell stock.

In 11/2023 Billionaire investor Ron Baron told CNBC that he expects SpaceX to IPO its Starlink satellite internet service "in 2027 or so."

In 11/2023 Elon Musk denied a report that his rocket company SpaceX was discussing an initial public offering (IPO) for its satellite internet business, Starlink, as soon as 2024. He called it "false" in a reply to a post on social media platform X that shared a Bloomberg News

report.

12/2023 update: Musk is in no hurry to spin off Starlink, despite excitement over the idea. “At SpaceX, we never think about the quarter. We never think about it, and we don't think about the stock price," Musk told ARK Investment Management CEO Cathie Wood. As he knows from leading Tesla, there’s “immense pressure on a public company to not have a bad quarter. So this can actually result in a less efficient operation, where you're going to great lengths at the end of a quarter to not disappoint people.”

SpaceX will not pursue an initial public offering of its Starlink unit in 2024, according to Bret Johnsen, the company’s chief financial officer. “It’d be more in the years to come,” Johnsen said. But Starlink's IPO became increasingly likely as the company achieved $6.5 billion in revenue in 2024, meeting Musk's desire for smooth and predictable income before moving forward with an IPO.
