IPO
As of 01/2026, Databricks is targeting a second-half 2026 IPO, though no specific date has been confirmed. CEO Ali Ghodsi stated in 12/2025 that he "wouldn't rule out" going public in 2026.
In 10/2020 Bloomberg reported Databricks was preparing for IPO: "Databricks is aiming to go public at a price significantly higher than the valuation in its last funding round. Software is the most profitable segment of the IPO market for investors, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Snowflake, which went public last month at a market value of $70B, has seen its shares double from its IPO price." Databricks IPO was among the most anticipated in 2021.
In 08/2022 Protocol wrote, that Databricks spent much of 2021 fielding questions about an IPO, which understandably faded given the correction in enterprise tech stocks. Information as of 06/2023, Bloomberg: "While Ghodsi said an initial public offering will eventually happen, “right now the markets are shut down.” He said that staying private allows Databricks to make investments in fields such as AI, which might be more difficult if company was public".
08/2022 stock split 3:1. The share prices are adjusted to 3:1 due to the shares split
CEO comment as of 09/2023: The current fundraise [Series E in 09/2023] doesn’t change Databricks’ IPO plans "one way or another," Ghodsi said. "We’re watching the market and economy closely and will go out when the time is right," he said.
Databricks is widely viewed as a top IPO candidate, though its CEO has stopped short of giving a timeline for a potential run at the public markets.
“We are focused on continuing to build a successful, sustainable business for the long run,” Ghodsi told CNBC. “An IPO will be a milestone, but we’re focused on satisfying the intense demand from customers, and ensuring their long term success.”
As of 03/2024 Databricks IPO is highly anticipated. Some analysts believe it is preparing to go public.
In 11/2024 CEO Ali Ghodsi said he’s optimizing for the success of Databricks over the next decade or two, not optimizing for an IPO.
“If we were going to go, the earliest would be, let’s say, mid-next year, or something like that,” Ghodsi said. “So, you know, could happen next year.”
"The earliest theoretical possibility of an IPO would be next year (2025)," Ghodsi said. Even after the impressive fundraise, Ghodsi isn’t ruling out a Databricks IPO in 2025. However, he said it could be 2026 as well. He said it’s far less important to go public than it was 10 to 15 years ago, as this record-breaking round indicates, but it’s still something the company wants to do.
