IPO
Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi said 14/04/2026 that the crypto exchange confidentially filed for an initial public offering.
Kraken originally targeted a Q1 2026 public listing. However, early 2026 crypto market volatility, along with the SEC’s review timeline, has pushed expectations toward Q2 2026 or later.
In 01/2026 KRAKacquisition Corp, a Kraken‑backed SPAC, filed a registration statement with the SEC to raise $250M in an IPO on Nasdaq, offering 25M units at $10 each under the ticker KRAQU.
The structure is viewed as supportive of—rather than a complication for—Kraken’s long-term equity narrative ahead of a potential IPO. The existence of KRAKacquisition does not dilute or replace Kraken’s IPO path. On the contrary, it reinforces Kraken’s role as an ecosystem builder while keeping its own equity story clean and IPO-ready. For secondary investors, this matters:
- Kraken’s valuation will be set via public market demand, not a negotiated SPAC merger
- Governance and conflict risks remain low
- Strategic optionality shifts to acquisitions around Kraken, not of Kraken
- In 04/2026, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi confirmed that the company had confidentially filed for a U.S. IPO, following earlier reports that the filing was submitted in 11/2025. The company had initially targeted a Q1 2026 listing, but the IPO process was later put on hold due to unfavorable market conditions, with no updated IPO timeline disclosed.
- In 2021 Kraken management announced to the media its plans to hold an IPO in the 2H2022. In 03/2022, the company welcomed new CFO. Due to the state of global markets, the listing was postponed.
- Initially, it was about direct listing. But taking into account the experience of the Coinbase crypto exchange, which became public in 04/2021, Kraken is now leaning towards a regular IPO. In the case of a direct listing, shareholders have the right to immediately sell their shares, which leads to a large number of securities entering the market and reduces the share price.
- In 11/2023 Kraken CEO discussed possible IPO with Bloomberg. But a new private round is more likely. Kraken took initial steps by initiating a review by the SEC, which after a year didn’t declare Kraken an “effective” candidate. Since then, however, The Block reported Kraken has filled its C-suite with seasoned executives experienced in public offerings, including Chief Compliance Officer C.J. Rinaldi and Chief Financial Officer Carrie Dolan.
- As of 07/2024, Kraken is in talks to raise $500M in a "pre-IPO round" at a $15B valuation, with plans to go public in 2026.
